Welcome to Walsenburg Colorado located in Huerfano County in Southern Colorado. Huerfano County covers 1,560 square miles. Eastern Huerfano County is mostly open plains with the Huerfano River and Cuchara River running thru it. Beautiful canyons, rolling foothills, Maria Reservoir and the Cuchara Dam are all located in Eastern Huerfano County.
The Spanish Peaks Regional Health Center, DIALYSIS CENTER, VA Nursing Home is located west of Walsenburg, across from the State Park.

La Veta schools - K thru 12 - serve the Southeast end of the County. Gardner schools - K thru 8 - serve the Northwest end of the County. Walsenburg schools - K thru 12 - and Trinidad State Junior College - serve the East end of the County. Community Halls, Parks and Recreational Centers, Art Galleries are also located in each community.
Walsenburg has a lounge and restaurant and is located next to the Lathrop State Park, with 2 lakes and camping facilities. Water sports are allowed as well as great fishing. The Sangre de Cristos and the Spanish Peaks have some really challenging hiking trails.

Mosca Pass and Medena Pass will take you over the mountain and into the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Fishing lakes that are located in Huerfano County include Monument, Blue, Horseshoe, Martin and Lily. Fly fishing is great in the Upper Huerfano as well as for ice fishing also. Camping areas can be
found in Lathrop State Park 3 miles west of Walsenburg, Upper Huerfano and on Hwy 12, also known as the Highway of Legends. All types of water sports are allowed on Martin Lake in Lathrop State Park. Two really challenging golf courses - Grandote in La Veta and the 9
hole Municipal Golf Course in Walsenburg are both open to the public. Both offer full service clubhouses.
